Do you want to play a lead role within a team that analyses whether the Environment Agency is making a difference to the environment? If so, we might be the team for you. As part of Statutory Assessment and Reporting within the Environment & Business directorate, you will be responsible for working with the team to identify a new generation of data flows, databases and IT systems. The need for this work has been triggered by substantial investment in a new way of carrying out national scale assessment and evaluation of the environment. The River Surveillance Network is one example of the new approach. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your GIS and data management expertise in a high profile technical leadership role - you will be bold, creative and expert in creating and using data and spatial evidence to underpin evidence, assessment, planning and delivery. Your engagement, communication and relationship building skills will be key as one of your main tasks in this role will be to persuade others to fund the development of the tools, systems and products you identify as being essential to delivery.
We are a growing team of data and information specialists who work on the analysis, management and sharing of some of the key information that drives the organisation’s environment activity. We work with government to improve environmental legislation and with a variety of stakeholders to improve the way we provide environmental information, such as bathing water quality, to the public. We have a reputation for being an engaging people-orientated team despite our dispersed nature.
You should have:
• the ability to work well as part of a dispersed team and within a programme management environment
• experience of identifying the need for new data tools, systems or outputs
• a track record of successful delivery with strong focus on networking and relationship management
• experience in delivering through others, with good inter-personal and organising skills
- knowledge of how classification results are compiled from the ground up
- knowledge of what existing systems (e.g. CPS) offer and what the EA's existing data strategies will deliver
- knowledge of IT funding routes is desirable but not necessary
The host department may have further similar job opportunities. If you don’t secure a role at this time but give a successful interview, we’ll place you on a reserve list. Where possible, we will attempt to backfill vacancies that arise in the next six months from this reserve list.
Our team promotes an inclusive culture and welcome all applicants, including disabled, LGBT+ or Black Asian and Minority Ethnic colleagues. Part time and job share applications also encouraged.
