Do you want to make the world a better place? Are you passionate about protecting against natural threats and hazards? We are looking for a great person to join our Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Operations Department working in our Asset Performance Team based at Shrewsbury in the West Midlands area.
A key responsibility will be the assisting in the management of our flood risk assets ensuring exceptional standards of safety, performance and meeting legal requirements and delivering our Asset Management Strategy. The role will involve both office and field working.
You will play a key role in managing our assets by undertaking inspections, collecting data and assisting in the future planning of managing these assets. You will liaise with and support our field operations teams and framework contractors in the planning and delivery of our annual maintenance programme. You will also play a key role in the continual improvement of our asset data and information. The successful applicant will be expected to be involved in our incident response remit which may involve some out of hours work.
We are asset managers for flood risk management assets within Shropshire, Herefordshire Worcestershire and Gloucestershire. We ensure that our flood risk management assets are inspected, surveyed, maintained and operated in a safe, effective and efficient manner to reduce flood risk for people and property and ensure they work to agreed service levels and standards. During a flood, we would operate our assets to deliver the EA’s tactical/operational response in partnership with other responders.
Through experience to date you will ideally be able to demonstrate some of the following:
An understanding of the impact of flooding
Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers
Delivery of work by planning, tracking, gathering and maintaining data/information
An appreciation of flood risk assets or assessment management
Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team to make decisions and achieve planned outcomes
Good organisational skills and an ability to use MS Office
Excellent communication skills are a must as you’ll be working with a diverse range of people
The key things we’re looking for are transferrable skills and capabilities, so do not be put off applying if you don’t have a degree and/or you don’t have experience in this sector.
As an entry level grade we welcome all backgrounds, preferably in an interest in engineering, geography or science discipline.
