An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Shrewsbury or Tewkesbury Asset Performance team in West Midlands. You will take an active role in managing our flood risk assets within a geographical area. Your enthusiasm and positive outlook will help you find solutions and ensure our assets are inspected, surveyed, maintained and operated in a safe, effective and efficient manner to reduce flood risk for people and property. During a flood, we would operate our assets to deliver the EA’s tactical/operational response in partnership with other responders.

Our team manages thousands of flood risk assets ranging from critical assets like large flood defence schemes and reservoirs through to small outfalls and flap valves. We perform an essential role in ensuring that people and property are protected from flooding by taking the right investment decision at the right time; based upon robust data.

This role involves huge variety and so you may be planning an engineering project one day, undertaking data work the next day and liaising with contractors, local residents and partners on another. You will also get involved in incident response to ensure our assets deliver the EA’s tactical/operational response in partnership with other responders.
Our team looks after a diverse range of assets in Shropshire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire. Our team comprises a mix of civil engineers, asset managers, data and incident leads, and asset inspectors. Now is a great time to join us as we embed asset management principles and continue to better protect people and property from flooding.
You will be a confident communicator, with excellent customer service skills, as you will be working with internal and external partners, as well as with members of the public. This will be complimented by your enthusiasm and ambition to achieve defined deadlines and targets.
We're seeking qualified civil engineers and/or asset managers, preferably with relevant work experience in the flood risk sector. Through experience to date you will ideally be able to demonstrate some of the following:

• An understanding of the impact of flooding
• Delivery of work by planning, tracking, gathering and maintaining data/information
• An appreciation of flood risk assets or asset management
• Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team to make decisions and achieve planned outcomes
• Good organisational skills
• You'll have a good working knowledge of a range of IT packages, including MS Office.
The successful applicant will be expected to be involved in our incident response remit which may involve some out of hours work.
The Environment Agency offer an extensive range of employee benefits and opportunities to progress your career via professional training routes such as apprenticeships and degree programs.
Interviews are scheduled to take place middle to end of May.
