We have an exciting opportunity for a part time role as a Senior Environmental Monitoring Officer within the Wessex Analysis and Reporting team. The position is for 18.5 hours per week.

The successful candidate will provide:
- Expert ecological monitoring advice, guidance and training to support the team and wider Environment Agency in delivering our monitoring commission.
- Build and maintain productive relationships between Analysis and Reporting and our internal customers.
- Will lead on building ecological technical resilience within the team to enable us to provide sound evidence based decisions to support other Environment Agency teams.
- Act as a link between our area team and Analysis and Reporting teams across the organisation, sharing relevant information, guidance and good practice.
You’ll join a friendly, highly motivated team that covers all of Wessex. We are responsible for ensuring chemistry, ecology and fishery monitoring programmes collect the evidence we need for a variety of legislative, national and local requirements. The team is comprised of officers skilled in monitoring field-work, laboratory work, and have expertise in assessing this multi-functional monitoring data and turning it into evidence. This evidence informs the wider business and ultimately helps underpin environmental improvements.
The successful candidate must be qualified to at least degree level (or equivalent) in an ecological technical discipline. You will have significant levels of relevant practical experience and ideally specialise in freshwater ecology.

-You’ll have experience in a technical role and have the ability to make technically sound decisions using a wide variety of ecological and chemical evidence.
-You should have strong leadership qualities, be able to remain positive and focused even when there are conflicting demands.
-You will be well-organised, have the confidence to work independently using your own initiative and to coach / mentor others to improve their capabilities in environmental monitoring.
-You should have excellent communication and influencing skills, be adaptable, and able to use your initiative to take timely decisions to manage complex workloads to tight deadlines.
-We’ll need you to innovate to find better ways of doing things, working with the team to embed changes.
We are an area wide team covering Dorset and Somerset. The post holder can be based in either Blandford (DT11 8ST) or Bridgwater (TA6 4YS), with some travel required between offices. There will be a requirement to attend pollution incidents and help with field work across the area, as a result the post holder must have a full driving licence.
