Typical tasks that the team undertake may include dealing with customers through our helpdesks, processing simple permits, maintaining our IT applications, delivering aspects of compliance audits, supporting enforcement and providing excellent customer service.
Operational Support is a busy team, with never a dull moment! We support several regimes with different time pressures across the year. Resource needs to be flexed to meet changing demands and this can mean juggling lots of priorities at any time.
You will be able to build strong working relationships with your peers, and technical leads across the whole team. You will also be able to influence organisational suppliers to quick resolutions around finance and recruitment.
As a leader, you are not expected to be an expert in the technical subject area but will be able to quickly pick up an understanding of the regimes your team work on to be able to negotiate and communicate on their behalf with confidence and integrity, whilst also being able to gauge your teams performance throughout the year.
We are around forty people, based across two offices. We have been operating as three teams but, due to expansion, we are now creating an additional team.
CCTRS regulates businesses across the UK to ensure that we achieve statutory emissions reduction targets in line with domestic and international agreements on climate change.
We are part of Operations Regulatory Services (ORS) and there will be opportunity to lead on wider topics across the department.
An approachable individual, you will;
- be able to build relationships with your team and peers, building trust and respect.
- be good at balancing priorities, using business planning and resource tools, with a strong focus on team wellbeing
- be able to adapt ways of working to improve efficiency
- be expected to head team meetings, including presenting to groups. This includes department meetings up to 70 people. You are expected to communicate 1-1 with individuals and be able to do this with a wide range of personalities and abilities
- be able to liaise with colleagues in other departments, our contractors and wider government to resolve technical and people issues, in a tactful and sensitive manner.
- work closely with direct and indirect colleagues to ensure you are leading in a consistent and fair manner.
- have a positive attitude, alongside a genuine desire to support others
This role is office based, from either our Richard Fairclough House (Warrington) or Lutra House (Preston) office. Travel between the two offices will be required on a weekly basis as the team is dispersed. Other, less frequent, travel is required as we meet with other teams from ORS in mutually convenient locations such as Manchester or Birmingham.
We strongly recommend that you contact the recruiting manager as part of your preparation for applying for the role. The recruiting manager is Pam Fleming who can be contacted on 07557012551 or pam.fleming@environment-agency.gov.uk
