We’re increasing out technical capacity in WIRS in support of the Waste Crime: Waste Mis-description Project. If successful you’ll work closely with the project lead to provide technical support and guidance to Area lead officers. The successful applicant will work with direction from the Project Lead to provide technical leadership and guidance to the Project Officers.

You will:

• Form and disseminate a data/intelligence picture to focus efforts on tackling Misdescription of waste.
• Integrate regulatory data sets and use your regulatory insight, supporting area teams in focussing on illegal activity
• Manage a varied workload with flexibility and professionalism, track outcomes and report on project successes.
The Hazardous Waste Data and Investigations team sits within Waste and Industry Regulatory Services. The team tracks hazardous waste and interrogates data, conducting investigations to identify “missing” waste and identify criminal activity. The Misdescription officer will work within the team, sharing resources and knowledge to prevent and detect waste crime.

On completion of the project, the individual will continue to work within the wider WIRS Team, with consideration to their expertise, skills and interests.
You will demonstrate competency in the classification of waste, with a good understanding of the Hazardous Waste Regulations and broader waste compliance.

You’ll have experience, or a clear understanding of the challenges faced by Area delivery teams in this area of work.
You should also demonstrate
• Good communication skills, able to share complex data in appropriate formats for a range of audiences
• Experience of planning and managing your workload to challenging deadlines
• Creativity in your ability to integrate disparate data sets, interrogate the information and draw valid conclusions, providing actionable intelligence.
• Ability to deliver work to a high standard of accuracy
The Sheffield office is the preferred base but other locations may be considered. The role will require occasional travel to meetings and training events.
