Operational Delivery

At the Environment Agency our mission is simple: protect the environment to ensure tomorrow's generations inherit a cleaner, safer, healthier world. Our Operations department helps maintain river channels and flood defences, protecting people and property from flooding and plays a vital role in protecting wildlife throughout the region.
As part of a committed field team in the North London, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire areas, you’ll enjoy the physical demands of a role where you’ll be involved in everything from grass cutting, aquatic weed control, removing obstructions from watercourses and minor construction maintenance. Carrying out incident response and reducing flood risk are key activities.
You’ll be working in all weathers, so you’ll need a love for the great outdoors. Experience in operating petrol driven power tools such as chainsaws would be an advantage although training will be given. The Environment Agency has an emergency response role in attending flooding and pollution incidents, you’ll be committed to taking part in a 24/7 standby rota.
You’ll be fit and enthusiastic with a positive attitude and having an understanding of environmental issues to help us ensure work is delivered in a safe and environmentally sensitive way. You must also be self-motivated ideally having some experience in a similar role. A full UK driving license is required.
In return for your commitment, you’ll enjoy a range of great benefits including contributory pension scheme and generous holiday allowance. You’ll be given full training on safe use of all the equipment including a uniform and protective equipment, and we’ll support you towards QCF qualifications in Environmental Conservation.

Basic Check
Incident Response
The Environment Agency is a first responder to environmental incidents such as flooding and pollution. Our incident response is key to our reputation. Routine incidents are dealt with on a day to day basis, but major incidents are where we can win or lose the respect of others and where our reputation is most at risk.

Tell us what you think the role of a Field Team Member would be during an incident. What is important to think about? What kind of situations do you think you might face?
Environmental Awareness
Naturally, the Environment is central to all we do. Tell us about your passion for the environment, and why you would like to work for the Environment Agency
Health Safety & Wellbeing
The health safety and wellbeing of our team is of primary importance. Tell us about a time when you have used your understanding of health and safety to either improve people’s health and safety or wellbeing, or taken action to prevent an incident. What did you do, and what was the outcome?
Full UK Driving Licence required
