With the nation’s waste presenting us with increasingly complex challenges, we are looking for an innovative Waste Treatment Manager to help us devise the solutions that support a more circular economy and a healthier and safer future for everyone.

You will:
• Investigate approaches that improve how we manage and regulate waste. Supporting implementation of the Government’s 25 Year Environment Plan and Resource and Waste Strategy, you will see to it that legislation is being effectively used in relation to priorities such as managing plastics and dealing with abandoned waste sites.
• Guide the team’s work on projects such as raising industry compliance in the clinical waste sectors, anaerobic digestion and composting, and reducing the risk of fires at waste sites.
• Work with a wide variety of partners such as government departments, trade associations, international bodies and the wider industry, to deliver positive change.
• Develop your teams skills, motivating them to come up with fresh angles, and ensuring work is delivered to time and budget.
• Provide advice to a range of audiences, ranging from waste experts to those who do not work in the sector. As such, you will have the capacity to translate technically complex concepts.
Managing the high performing team who determine how the treatment, transfer and storage of waste should be regulated to minimise the potential for the activities of these sectors to impact both on people and environment. You will be tasked with leading initiatives affecting sectors such as wood and tyre recycling, hazardous waste treatment, and food waste and composting.
The team is dispersed across England, so you will need the flexibility to travel to meetings nationwide.
You will have the scope to drive results that benefit people and the environment. We are therefore looking for a charismatic individual with exceptional leadership and people management skills. Coming from either a technical commercial or government background, it would be useful if you have a knowledge of waste management, though your capacity to inspire the team is more important. As an influential individual with good verbal and written communication skills, you will be highly motivated and able to lead and nurture a team who are spread across the country. With good networking skills, you will be able to build and sustain relationships, and deliver results in partnership with these people and their sectors.
Working in a supportive and inclusive team, you will work with colleagues who are passionate about playing their part in protecting the environment. And while we want you to love your job, we also want you to find the right work/life balance. As such, we can offer 27 days of annual holiday, plus bank holidays and flexible working options, and access to our highly competitive contributory pension scheme. Your future development is important to us, with on-going training and development opportunities.
