We have an exciting short term opportunity within our flood risk management team here in Hertfordshire and North London. You'll be a highly motivated individual wanting to manage flood risk in our communities. The successful applicant will liaise with a number of different teams to reduce flood risk so communication and organisational skills are essential. As our Programme Support Officer, you’ll give our teams the support they need by efficiently and accurately handling programme information. It’s a valued role that will give you an in-depth understanding of a variety of projects that are having a positive effect across our area. There’ll be lots to do including data processing, writing briefings, running reports and supporting meetings. This role is crucial to enable colleagues to be effective in their roles. You will have the opportunity to accompany Project/Programme Managers on site visits and really understand how flood risk is managed in a variety of ways. As you grow in confidence, we’ll support your ambitions too. You will have the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification called Managing Successful Programmes, recommended by the Cabinet Office’s Best Management Practice Portfolio. You will also learn about and be involved in our area’s incident response.
This post is based at our modern offices in Welwyn Garden City with occasional site visits required. The role will be based within our area flood risk management programme team. You role is part of a network of colleagues from a variety of departments and organisations across the country working together to respond to requests, develop, manage and deliver flood risk programmes of work.
You will be between your second or third year at University, preferably studying towards a relevant degree and have an interest in the environment and asset management relating to flood risk management.

Whilst previous experience in programme/project management would help, more important is your interest in the work and your exceptional talent for organisation and planning. It’s important that you’re positive, enjoy helping colleagues, promote collaboration and take pride in your work.

Full training will be given but the following skills and/or experience would be desirable but not essential:

• Strong organisational and inter-personal skills.
• Proven ability to use MS Office (particularly Excel).
• You understand and enjoy working with data and learning new technical skills.
• GIS skills would be advantageous to produce info-graphics.
• Your proactive approach and fresh perspective will ensure you’re always looking for ways we can improve.
• A knowledge of flood risk management.
