At the Environment Agency we are looking for Senior Environment Officers within the Regulated Industry department to provide technical leadership across two of our operational Areas within the South East region, Kent, South London & East Sussex and Hertfordshire & North London Areas.

The role will:-
• Provide specialist guidance to operational teams and customers influencing compliance with Environment Agency policy/legislation/best practice ways of working and contribute to the delivery of business plans.
• Keep up to date on changing legislation/best practice in order to set internal priorities and appraise colleagues.
• Contribute to the development of Environment Agency policy/process at national/local level and monitor and advise on effective implementation in the business, in line with environmental targets.
• Lead or participate in projects, providing functional/specialist input to improve ways of working and business change and efficiency.
• Build and sustain effective relationships with operational customers to understand issues and provide effective response/steer for operational needs.
• Mentor and coach team members on policies, procedures, practices and techniques equipping them with the knowledge and skills to deliver their work in an effective manner.
• Develop plans to check compliance with environmental and permit standards and undertake enforcement action where necessary.
Delivering core regulatory work waste teams work to tight deadlines, within a high pressure environment.

Our priorities include;
• Achieving compliance at poor performing sites,
• Reducing the number of high risk fire sites,
• Cross-cutting regulatory requirements and tackling waste crime,
• Providing support on incident management
Using regulatory tools, with emphasis on enforcement.

Kent, South London & East Sussex – x 5
Hertfordshire & North London – x 2 (one post -Amenity Lead)
We are looking for someone who has:

• Evidence of planning and implementing actions to achieve corporate and environmental objectives.
• Experience of influencing external customers and internal colleagues and of delivering results.
• Experience of coaching and mentoring others.
• Experience of delivering environmental compliance and/or environmental outcomes in accordance with a relevant legislative regime.
• Able to provide technical leadership to colleagues, influencing decision making and setting the agenda for the waste portfolio in the area.
• Strong team working skills to galvanise a dedicated team of regulators in the area

Amenity Lead Hertfordshire and North London - In this role, we would like someone with an experience of amenity impacts, including odour, noise and air quality to coach and mentor others to support technical knowledge and performance. A background in enforcement of amenity issues would be desirable/essential for this role.
