This is an exceptional opportunity to be part of a team which will plan for and deliver extensive new data protection legislation in to the Environment Agency over the next 12 months.

The EU General Data Protection Regulation and new UK Data Protection Bill takes effect in May 2018, requiring a significant number of changes to existing Environment Agency processes and procedures.

You will need to be able to learn quickly in order to play your part in both preparing for the new legislation, and ensuring the organisation continues to comply with current requirements.
The Data Protection team sits within Knowledge & Information Management in FCRM directorate. As the strategic lead on data protection compliance it delivers an exceptional customer-oriented service across all business areas.

A dispersed team, K&IM also provides cross-business leadership on Records Management and Knowledge Management.
You will be a motivated self-starter, capable of managing your own workload to deliver key activities within both statutory and project timescales. Specifically:

• You maximise work output by setting goals and priorities, measuring progress outcomes, and taking swift remedial action when necessary.
• You prepare convincing arguments on complex issues, presenting information logically, concisely and persuasively.
• You will be able to demonstrate how you have supported process development through to implementation.
• You plan work in advance by thinking through the action necessary to complete tasks to deadlines and adjust plans as necessary.
• You will have some familiarity with data protection or other information legislation, or related work area. You may have applied this knowledge in your own team, or advised others about how it applies to their work, but this will not necessarily be a major part of your current role.
Closing Date: 8th January 2018 at 23:55 hours

The core Data Protection team is based in Bristol, and regular contact will be important. Some national travel and occasional overnight stays can be expected. Support will be available to the successful candidate to build their knowledge of the new legislation.

For further information about the role please contact Sandra Cavill, Data Protection Manager on 07770 284419, or at sandra.cavill@environment-agency.gov.uk.

Interviews will take place in Bristol on Wednesday 24 January 2018.
