At the Environment Agency our mission is to make the environment a better place for people and wildlife. A significant part of our work is to manage flood risk and at the Thames Barrier you’ll be at the heart of the capital, helping us to do just that.

In this apprenticeship we will train you to be a fully qualified Electrical Maintenance Technician. Over three years you’ll develop the skills to carry out routine electrical maintenance and perform fault diagnosis on industrial electrical supplies, plus a varied range of electronic control systems. Training in installation and modification work will also be covered. The position is day-work, and when you’re suitably competent you will be on a standby rota to operate equipment for flood emergencies that will help protect the City.
Based at the iconic Thames Barrier in south east London, you will be part of the skilled MEICA Electrical Team, working on various types of electrical and electronic equipment at several large flood defence structures, and at other associated sites along the tidal Thames.
Previous work experience in this field is not essential. We are looking for someone who wants to learn, enjoys solving practical, technical problems, and who wants a long term career with the Environment Agency. As a minimum you must have GCSEs in Maths and English. Qualifications in other technical or practically related subjects would be ideal, but are not essential.

At the application and interview stages we will base our assessment on the competencies listed below and we will be looking for answers based on your experience to date. This could be from a college, work or social context - so think as broadly as you can when responding to these.

Important: The successful applicant will have to undergo a Counter Terrorism Check (CTC) which means you must have been resident in the UK for a minimum of three years.
Closing Date: 5th January 2018 at 23:55 hours
We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. The Environment Agency offers an excellent benefits package including 25 days holiday plus public holidays, pension scheme, childcare vouchers and access to many other corporate benefits.
