We are the Environment Agency. We protect and improve the environment.
You will be part of a diverse organisation which takes pride in welcoming applicants from all sections of the community.

Climate Change is the biggest risk we face. We are planning for future flood scenarios including a 4oC rise in global temperature and are working with government, local councils, businesses, and communities to make our environment a better place for people and wildlife.

We are looking for great people to join our frontline Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) and Asset Performance (AP) teams. You will help to ensure that flood risk is effectively managed to protect communities at risk of flooding. You will engage with our customers to provide great service and play a key role in the smooth running of our departments. We have an overview of flood risk across the North East through strategic planning, understanding of flood risk, permitting and enforcement of flood risk activities, influencing development, management of our flood risk asset portfolio and responding to flood incidents.

We are recruiting to a range of permanent and fixed term roles.
The FCRM and AP teams are motivated, vibrant and successful offering a great place to work. You will be supported to develop professionally and achieve great results. We work with professional partners and communities to identify, develop, and deliver capital flood risk and coastal erosion schemes. We maintain an extensive range of flood defence assets and as part of our ambition to be lead asset managers we have recently achieved ISO55001.
You will have a desire and commitment to build relationships with our customers and teams to protect people/property from flooding.

Through your experience to date you will be able to demonstrate some of the following:

• Understanding of river processes, hydrology and the impact of flooding
• Ability to develop/maintain good customer relationships
• Delivery of work by planning, tracking, gathering and maintaining data/information
• Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
• Good organisational skills
• Managing multiple priorities and competing demands.

Most important is your energy, enthusiasm and willingness to learn combined with excellent problem solving/communication skills as you’ll be working with a diverse range of people.

As an entry level grade we welcome all backgrounds, preferably with an interest in engineering, geography or science discipline.

A valid driving licence is desirable for some, but not all, roles available at this grade.
The Environment Agency are committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies.

We offer an extensive range of employee benefits and opportunities to progress your career with us via professional training routes such as apprenticeships and degree programmes.
