Climate Change is the biggest risk we face. We are planning for future flood scenarios including a 4oC rise in global temperature and are working with government, local councils, businesses, and communities to make a better place for people and wildlife.

We need highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) and Asset Performance (AP) Teams to support delivery of our flood capital and revenue projects and programmes.

FCRM team:
Work with others to develop an understanding of how to reduce the risk of flooding to the communities we serve.

Work to develop new schemes by finding the best solutions to reduce flood risk.
Build project teams, partnerships and secure funding to deliver these.

AP team:
Plan and prioritise our maintenance programme.
Manage projects to maintain our existing assets.

Help deliver new flood schemes, ensuring the design delivers benefits for communities and can be maintained to the highest standards.

We are recruiting to a range of permanent and fixed term roles
The FCRM and AP teams are motivated, vibrant and successful offering a great place to work. You will be supported to develop professionally and deliver fantastic projects and great results. We work with professional partners and communities to identify, develop, and deliver capital flood risk and coastal erosion schemes. We maintain an extensive range of flood defence assets and as part of our ambition to be lead asset managers we have recently achieved ISO55001.
You’ll be qualified to degree standard (or equivalent) in a relevant science/engineering discipline and have or be working towards a professional accreditation. You’ll be confident/organised and able to demonstrate a great track record of delivering results. Most important is your energy/enthusiasm/willingness to learn combined with excellent problem solving/communication skills.

You’ll have real desire and commitment to build relationships with our customers/ internal teams to achieve our goal of protecting people/property from flooding.

Knowledge and/or experience of the following are desirable:

• Experienced project manager, civil engineer or asset manager.
• Managing multiple priorities and competing demands.
• Working on collaborative partnership projects.
• Communicating with a range of customers and partners.
• Ability to work as part of a team or on your own.
• A good understanding of appropriate safe working practices.
• An understanding of flood risk and how it is managed.

A valid driving licence is essential

Effective communication - both written and oral - is essential in the role. You will be responsible for drafting briefings and papers which must be clear and accessible for colleagues, including senior managers and elected representatives, who will not always have detailed knowledge in all of the subjects being addressed. Valid UK driving licence
