Deliver expert opinion and advice to external customers and partners on scientific and technical issues relevant to Fisheries and Biodiversity in order to enhance the environment throughout their large high profile projects.

Co-ordinate our support to develop and determine Environment Agency capital/revenue schemes and permit applications to ensure they comply with wildlife legislation and deliver more for the environment.

Provide interpretation and explanation of complex technical principles, procedures and policy in order to enhance our work and to deliver and develop best practice in the Area.

Provide expert opinion and advice to internal teams on scientific and technical issues on day to day matters relevant to Fisheries and Biodiversity.

Act as a technical mentor to support staff by coaching and encouraging continuing personal development to ensure knowledge is shared and capability developed in the team.

Lead and participate in projects, providing functional / specialist input to improve ways of working and business change, for example working with Flood Risk Teams.

Keep up to date on changing legislation / best practice externally, to inform internal priorities.

Contribute to the development of Environment Agency policy / process.

Build and sustain effective relationships with operational customers to understand issues and provide effective response.
You’ll join a Team of ecologists and geomorphologists. We deliver technical advice and guidance to all aspects of the Environment Agency’s work including our capital schemes, operations, incident response, regulation, strategies and plans, Local Authority planning consultations, advisory work and habitat enhancement projects. We deal daily with the public, NGOs, Local Authorities, Water Companies, developers and landowners assessing ecological risks and collaboratively delivering ecological benefits.
Well-developed communication and negotiating skills.

Ability to understand and take reasonable risks.

High level of technical knowledge of fisheries and/or biodiversity issues and legislation, with freshwater experience. Technical knowledge of both disciplines is desirable but knowledge of one discipline is suitable.

Good planning and organisational skills.

Project management skills.

Broad knowledge of Environment Agency duties and responsibilities.

The ability to work proactively and lead work on biodiversity/fisheries for the Area.
