We are seeking an assistant fisheries officer with proven fisheries operational and technical experience, to join our busy fisheries, team in the Environment Agency Herts North London area. Our role is to maintain, improve and develop fisheries and deliver water framework outcomes for the area. The role will focus on providing operational support within the team for a range of activities, including fisheries incident response, river and still water surveys, fisheries management advice and operational support to the wider business. The role will operate across the Herts, North London area where engagement with a range of statutory and non-statutory partners, including rod licence paying customers, is critical to reputational management & outcome delivery. Responding to environmental incidents & out of hours working in a range of conditions, is a key requirement. The post holder will lead on equipment maintenance, servicing & safety for the team. The post is based at Welwyn Garden City but will operate across the area requiring frequent travelling. The candidate will work closely with other environmental experts and teams across the area and there will be opportunities for personal and technical development via Agency programmes and support.
The post sits within the Hertfordshire - North London, fisheries, biodiversity and geomorphology team based in Welwyn Garden City, Herts. The fisheries team comprises of technical officers, specialists and enforcement officers which operate and advise across the business on a range of issues affecting the Agency’s fisheries remit. The post holder will be required to work individually and in a supporting role to the wider team.
Fisheries roles attract experienced industry experts and others with a track record in fisheries management related activities, technical competency and operational experience of UK fisheries. Candidates will ideally hold a qualification in a relevant fisheries or environmental discipline and have demonstrable experience in UK freshwater fisheries management. The role will entail out of hours, weekend and unsocial hours working. A full driving licence is required and electrofishing, 4 wheel drive & boat working certifications would be an advantage.
