An exciting opportunity to spend extended periods of time on board a light aircraft capturing remotely sensed data using a variety of instruments. This includes the collection of LIDAR and Aerial Photography data to support the delivery of our work programmes.

The survey aircraft captures LIDAR data on 24/7 basis when the weather conditions allow. Because of this a flexible shift pattern which includes alternate weekends and night work is essential.

Geomatics is a unit within the Environment Agency’s National Monitoring team. Its remit is to deliver geomatics services to the Environment Agency and the wider environmental community. We are focused on delivering the highest quality data and providing a fully integrated approach to the delivery of geo-information. Combining cutting edge technology with expert personnel, we work to the highest scientific and ethical standards to provide accurate and high quality GIS ready products
You need a good degree in Geography or other relevant subject.
You will be able to demonstrate field work experience in remote sensing or survey techniques either through work or your academic experiences. Basic knowledge of GIS, LIDAR, GPS and associated technologies is desirable.

Your technical expertise should be combined with enthusiasm, flexibility and a professional attitude.

Much of the work is carried out independently or as part of a small field team so an ability to make good operational decisions is essential.

Safety is at the centre of everything we do; it is vital that you can show evidence of professional conduct in challenging situations.
