You will lead project teams to deliver our organisation’s strategic ambitions, creating a collaborative, working environment to bring the best out of high performing teams. You will act as Project Executive on complex projects, providing direction to project teams. We’ll expect you to enhance the entire project delivery process.

You’ll develop a strong network of working relationships both inside and outside the organisation with Stakeholders and Partners. You will apply strong commercial acumen in contract and risk management, ensuring you have well-established effective supply partner relationships in place.

As the Programme & Contract Management (PCM) Area Lead attending Project Board and Programme Review meetings, you’ll report on project and programme progress against key targets for your portion of the capital programme. You’ll be confident in escalating issues raised by your team and as a strong problem solver, you will be able to work closely with Area colleagues to adapt your programme delivery when key issues are escalated.

As a key figure within your local leadership team, you will line manage 10-20 people. You will plan workload, identify resources required to meet the demands of your Area programme and lead on recruitment to ensure you have the right skills in place.
Programme and Contract Management (PCM) is responsible for delivering the majority of our high profile and large-scale projects in a continually improving sustainable way, mainly within our flood risk asset management programme; from multi-million pound programmes to ground-breaking, award-winning projects. There are 50-60 colleagues working in your local team and they work within a supportive environment where each team member’s contribution is valued. Our professional teams manage projects throughout their lifecycle to deliver environmental improvements.
You’ll have a degree in an engineering, environmental or geography related discipline with chartered membership of a relevant professional body such as ICE, CIWEM or APMP.
You’ll have considerable technical knowledge in a range of areas such as flood & coastal erosion risk management (FCRM), business case development, modelling & hydrology, scope preparation, feasibility assessment, engineering, construction and H&S. You will have mentoring skills to be able to support your project teams in the delivery of their work.
Ideally, you’ll have significant project, contract and line management experience, on complex civil engineering and FCRM projects as a Project Executive, Senior Project Manager or Senior User. PRINCE2 or APM qualified would be advantageous and working knowledge of the NEC suite of contracts is essential.
You’ll have experience managing stakeholders, both internally and externally and can demonstrate strong interpersonal, influencing and negotiating skills, and collaborative behaviours operating across all levels.
