We are looking for a candidate to lead a Water Quality permitting team within the National Permitting Service in the Environment Agency. We welcome applications from candidates seeking flexible working patterns, including job share.

You will be based in Manley House, Exeter and you will be supported by the Permitting Manager, Customer Operations Manager and appropriate Regime Leads. You will be joining and contributing to, a leadership team of permitting Team Leaders based in the Bristol centre.

You will be responsible for: the performance of your team to meet the service levels to determine permits; their health, safety and wellbeing; their development and capability; plus ensuring a high level of customer service. You will support your team during difficult permit determinations, resolve difficulties and problems as required and seek help and/or escalate as appropriate. You will have an active role in a Leadership Team that reports to the Permitting Manager based in Bristol, plus, as appropriate, the Water Quality group consisting of team leader peers from across NPS. You will also liaise with other colleagues across Operations.
The National Permitting Service consists of 450 staff working across a broad range of environmental permits and licences covering most of which you come into contact with during your day, from the water you drink, to the fuel in your car. You will be part of a group of eight teams based across the South West of England that report to a Permitting Manager.
Do you have the talent to lead and manage your team to be the best they can, to influence and collaborate with others and to do the best we can for our customers? You will probably have some experience of this, or be able to demonstrate that you can make the step up into this Leadership role.

You should be able to show how you have used your own personal development to enhance your skills and hone your talent. You should be able to demonstrate how you would inspire and motivate the team to achieve the best level of performance and how continuous improvement may work with the team. You should be able to describe how you work with others, how you influence and persuade, plus your approach to leadership and management and other aspects which you believe to be important for leadership.
The role is primarily office based at the Manley House Office in Exeter, although some travel will be required to attend meetings and training.
