We are looking for an experienced or aspiring Team Leader to lead and motivate the Operations Field Team based in Oxford. You’ll be providing leadership, direction and support to the team, whilst delivering a fast-paced programme of objectives.

You and your team will be responsible for delivering our local river maintenance programme, maintaining flood defence assets and responding to environmental incidents in the River Thames catchment. This is a demanding and highly rewarding role. You’ll make sure our workforce provides a professional and efficient service to manage flood risk to communities and works as safely and effectively as possible. Your team work outdoors and are highly visible to the public. The nature of this role means that when you get it right this could well be one of the most satisfying and fulfilling roles you have ever undertaken.
The team is based in Oxford and consists of 16 operatives. We deliver a maintenance and construction programme on the River Thames using a variety of floating plant and equipment. We respond to flooding and environmental incidents across the area both day and night. We provide advice and support to our colleagues in other departments and members of the public.
This role would suit a man or a woman who is an experienced Team Leader or an individual who aspires to become a Team Leader. You will demonstrate an understanding of business and performance management and be positive and self motivated. You will be happy to lead, motivate, challenge and develop others. You will have experience of delivering both in a planned proactive way and have the ability to think on your feet during incident response.
You will lead, direct, motivate and inspire a team using your initiative to manage and prioritise complex workloads and tight deadlines. You’ll be able to demonstrate excellent communication and influencing skills. You’ll be customer focused; looking to build public confidence in our work, whilst being operationally effective. You’ll also need to be a strategic thinker with the ability to provide direction to the team to ensure we adapt to new challenges.
