The Government has set out its ambition: to drive evidence-based decision making; to make public processes more efficient; and to improve customer interactions.
We are looking to build our capability to take advantage of data opportunities presented by new approaches and technologies.
The roles will focus on our work on the 25-year Environment Plan, Natural Capital and the strategic review of our monitoring. Working closely with teams across the Environment Agency, you can expect to be involved in any of the following:
• Grow an analytical network across our business.
• Develop innovative analytics that enable us to transform our existing approaches.
• Undertake data discovery tasks.
• Access, use and visualise data for headline metrics.
• Build on our existing data services and investments.
• Develop algorithms to combine the data into meaningful metrics.
• Deliver proofs of concept to demonstrate the art of the possible.
• Build tools to run our business activities more effectively.
Data and Systems plays a huge part in the work that the Environment Agency does; from making our data accessible and findable, to unlocking the potential of data so that no data is left unexploited. The team works out of many Environment Agency offices.
You will:
• Have experience in: building communities of data users; managing data; and undertaking data analytics.
• Have knowledge of: spatial information; understanding statistical principles; and GIS. Experience in user information design and a programming language would be desirable.
• Have experience of successfully setting up and delivering data projects and programmes of work.
• Be able to build and maintain relationships with a range of internal partners.
• Interpret and present data science outputs clearly and be confident in engaging and persuading people.
• Actively participate in external data fora and expert groups.
• Be willing to learn and have a flexible approach.
