The Environment Agency's Devon, Cornwall and IOS Environmental Monitoring team are offering one lucky candidate a fantastic 18 month opportunity to work with a highly skilled team that is dedicated to making DCIOS a better place.

This role requires regular lone working so self-motivation is a key attribute, alongside being comfortable attending some remote places such as woodlands, moorland and coast areas on your own. You'll need map reading skills and a love of the great outdoors along with a good sense of humour to cope with ever-changeable, sometimes extreme weather conditions.

A clean driving licence is required because driving badged vehicles is an important aspect of this job. When at site you'll be responsible for accurately sampling and collecting important water quality data from our wonderful beaches and rivers. This will include kick sampling for bugs, carrying out diatom scrapes and conducting electric fishing and boat-based estuary surveys.

Incident Management is also a big part of what we do. This is sometimes at short notice and requires working into the evening.

You will need to have an aptitude for learning and using IT equipment as the job includes use of hand-held mobile devices, computers and monitoring instrumentation
The Sampling and Collection Team are truly multi-disciplinary. The Team of 9 work closely together to achieve and deliver outcomes which make our fantastic area even better. The team works with an energy and passion in physically demanding conditions.
