The Environmental Monitoring Assistant role involves carrying out field-based tasks across various disciplines including water chemistry, biology, fisheries and hydrometry.
This means taking samples from rivers, from boreholes, discharge points for businesses and from coastal waters. You will be working as an individual for the majority of the time to deliver your sampling programme, you will use and calibrate your field instrumentation to strict specifications to ensure good quality of data.
Fieldwork tasks will involve working in and near water, lifting and carrying samples, and using equipment and instrumentation in accordance with current Health and Safety procedures. The role can be physically demanding, and you will be working outdoors in all weathers.
The Sampling & Collection team provides key data for various other teams in the wider business within East Anglia area and nationally. This data provide input in to models for flood risk and water resources, helps provide data for compliance under the Environmental Permitting Regulations for discharges as well as providing core data for reporting under key Directives for DEFRA and the state of our environment.
We’re seeking a candidate who has any previous environmental monitoring field experience for ecology, fisheries, water quality or groundwater sampling. However, on the job training will be provided.
You need to be well organised, reliable, be able to work on your own as well as part of a dispersed team and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

A full UK driving licence is essential for this role.

Hours: 37 per week.

We as an Agency take part in incident response. If successful your line manager will discuss arrangements with you depending on your role and circumstances.
