The main responsibilities for this role is to carry out routine maintenance to a high standard on critical flood defence structures.
You must be physically fit and able to perform the duties which will require manual handling and access to large sites in remote areas. Also the use of vibrating hand tools will sometimes be required.
Boat work, working at height and confined space working may be a requirement periodically, where appropriate training will be provided.

This team works a 9 day fortnight (every other Friday is a non-working day).
This position is day-work and after a probation period, you'll be on a standby rota to operate assets for flood defence emergencies, as well as any other operational requirements. This is a 1 in 2 week standby roster and you could be called out at any time. Payment is made for working the standby roster at £124 per week.
This position attracts inner London weighting at £3509 per year.
All relevant training, tools and PPE will be provided.
Based at the iconic Thames Barrier in South East London, you'll be part of the MEICA Mechanical Team, working on various mechanical equipment at several Flood Defence Structures within the Kent and South London area.
Time served mechanical apprenticeship or professional qualification with experience on large mechanical structures. You will need to have a methodical approach to fault finding, be able to work well in a team, have good self motivation and follow instruction. Good inter-personal/communications skills are essential; you will interface with members of the public and our professional partners.

Experience in hydraulic systems. Use of workshop machine tools (lathes, milling machines etc) would be advantageous.
Candidates need to hold a full UK driving licence.
Successful applicant will have to undergo Counter Terrorism Check (CTC)
