An opportunity exists for a enthusiastic geoscientist to join the GHCL Technical Team in the East Midlands Area which covers Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.
You must demonstrate a wide multi-functional environmental awareness, be fully competent and be able to deliver results in one or more disciplines below:
- Groundwater Resources Management
- Groundwater Quality
- Contaminated Land
- Landfill Engineering
There will be opportunities/requirement to develop, on a needs basis, in some or all of these areas of work to maintain the team’s resilience.
The Technical (Groundwater, Hydrology and Contaminated Land) Teams provide scientific and technical support to Regulatory, Permitting and other teams in the Area. In doing so the teams plays a key role in ensuring that local decisions are based on sound technical judgement. The teams also work closely with external partners such as the Local Authorities.
You'll be qualified to at least degree level in a relevant discipline (eg Geological Sciences, Hydrogeology, Environmental Sciences, Geography etc.). A relevant post graduate qualification is desirable. You'll have the proven ability and/or knowledge to:

• Analyse, interpret and prepare reports on technical scientific data, providing good quality information and make recommendations;
• Advise, comment and recommend appropriate action on projects and plans;
• The ability to solve problems by considering many different procedures and standards before coming up with approaches or solutions;
• The job requires frequent contact with people outside of the department in order to provide or obtain information. The ability to clearly express yourself is important. The job requires courteous behaviour in face-to-face dealings with internal and external customers.
You will also need to demonstrate that you are well organized, can work to tight deadlines, manage your own work and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
