As a Supervisor in our Operations Field Teams you’ll lead your colleagues, working on our river and coastal defences, to prevent and respond to flooding and pollution.

You’ll be the lead team member on our sites, bringing your team together to efficiently and safely carry out routine maintenance of our assets. This hands-on role is mostly field-based and involves working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. You'll participate in a wide range of activities, from cutting vegetation, to clearing debris and fallen trees, to repairing earth flood banks.

We act quickly when there’s an emergency such as flooding or pollution. You’ll be included in our call-out rotas, responding with your team to operate our assets such as water pumps, barriers and flood gates.

This role is currently available at our Riccall Depot and Tickton Depot only.
Our Operations Field Teams are based at Rockingham (near Barnsley), Riccall (near York) and Tickton (near Beverley). We carry out a maintenance programme on rivers and watercourses across the area and respond to environmental incidents, such as flooding and pollution, both day and night. We provide advice and support to our colleagues in Asset Performance, Hydrometrics, Biodiversity and Environment Management. We also work across the country when other areas need assistance responding to environmental incidents.
You should show a positive, adaptable approach and a ‘can do’ attitude as a committed team player, as well as a leader. You’ll be organised and able to keep calm when responding to incidents. It’s important you understand site health and safety requirements and you’ll need good communication skills to work with customers and partners.

We would like you to have a good level of environmental awareness. You’ll have experience using, or be willing to learn to use, tablet-style computers and mobile technology.

You’ll have the energy to motivate, encourage and coach others in your team on site. The ideal candidate will have leadership experience and a foundation of practical skills like plant and power tool use, and minor construction work, DIY, gardening or similar. However, an aptitude to learn is also welcome as full training will be provided.
