We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Marine Monitoring Team Leader to manage the delivery of our statutory marine monitoring and collaborative marine programmes for the Estuarine and Coastal Monitoring and Assessment Service (ECMAS).
You’ll manage and provide direction to the team, ensuring that programmes of survey work are timely, on budget and outputs are of appropriate quality. Building and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external customers and partners will be at the heart of your role.
Your focus will be:
• Efficient delivery of statutory and Defra collaborative marine programme delivery
• Provide good quality data and information to customers
• Ensure an appropriate balance of skills is maintained within the team
• Provide leadership in monitoring and health, safety and wellbeing
The ECMAS is responsible for the delivery of the Environment Agency’s marine monitoring programme. This includes water and ecological monitoring undertaken nationally throughout England and for National Resources Wales as part of an ongoing partnership. It delivers a vital service that underpins much of our marine statutory responsibilities relating to water quality. We also deliver a wide range of marine monitoring projects for internal and DEFRA customers.
You will be able to lead a team of experienced marine monitoring professionals, inspiring excellence and assuring delivery. You’ll have experience of delivering through others and have experience of marine monitoring survey work, preferably with proven team leadership experience. A commitment to delivering for the environment and people and a good technical understanding of the Estuarine and Coastal environment.

We’re also looking for evidence of the following
• A degree or equivalent in a relevant marine environmental or science discipline.
• Well-developed customer relations skills, with a broad knowledge of our duties and responsibilities to meet customer needs.
• An understanding of leadership skills and how to get the best from a dispersed team
• Good planning skills.
• The ability to work collaboratively with other team leaders throughout the organisation and proactively brief senior management teams on problems and solutions.
The role is to be based in Kingfisher House, Peterborough.
A full UK driving license is essential as travel will be required
