A one year assignment opportunity has arisen to provide maternity cover for this Senior Team Leader position for the 2023 calendar year.

The Thames Tidal Defences (TTD), comprise the Thames Barrier, five associated major flood gate structures at Barking and Dartford Creek and the tidal entrances to London's Royal Docks and 125km of tidal walls and embankments both sides of the river from Erith in the East and Teddington in the West.
This is a high profile role as part of Thames Tidal Operations. You will be part of the Leadership Team providing a strategic oversight on all aspects of the TTD operation with specific responsibilities for:

• Availability and effective operation of the tidal Thames forecasting systems to ensure accurate and timely information for decision making relating to the issue of flood warnings, operation of the Thames Barrier and Associated Gates and effective incident management.

• Representing TTD both internally and externally and proactively leading on change programmes and projects to ensure the continued ability of TTD to operate London's active tidal flood defences to minimise flood risk.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The post has 6 direct reports. 5 of these reports operate a 24/7, 365/year shift system providing a forecasting and warning service for the tidal Thames. Out-of-hours the team provide a monitoring and response service for the Thames Barrier and associated gates plant alarm and fire systems and also assume the role of Site Duty Manager.
We are seeking experience of working with meteorological / tidal forecasting systems within an operational, engineering environment. You’ll be qualified to degree standard (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, or have sufficient relevant work experience and be a chartered professional or working at an equivalent professional level. You’ll possess ability and/or knowledge of, and appropriate behaviours to carry out:

• Crisis and operational management and ability to input into and solve complex problems.

• High quality business, priority and risk based decision making.

• Effective leadership and financial management deliver to time, quality and cost forecast.

• Managing programmes of work and change, monitoring and intervening to maintain quality of delivery.

• Providing effective leadership on health and safety matters by actively promoting health and safety best practice and ensuring the provision of safe working practices to ensure a safe working environment.
The role will be based at the Thames Barrier Operational Area and interviews will be held on 19th December 2022.
