We are the Environment Agency, and we work in partnership with government, local councils, businesses, and communities, we tackle the impacts of climate change and manage the assets that protect Central London from flooding.

This role is part of the core security team at the Thames Barrier. You will be delivering and improving how we manage internal security and risk at our assets in a complex and challenging environment, assessing risks for the Thames Tidal Defences to protect staff, assets, and the public we serve.

Purpose of the Role
• Delivery of personnel security on behalf of Thames Tidal Defences
• Adopt and implement security controls with input from both internal and external stakeholders
• Adopt and implement effective security risk management of potential threats, vulnerabilities and impact and risk mitigation.
• Maintain critical security to preserve exceptional standards of delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide personnel security advice and guidance in relation to National Security Vetting, Insider Threat risk management process, residency, clearance status, etc
• Effective communications of policies, processes and guidance to stakeholders and embed security culture at every level.
• Updates of site security manuals, site policies and processes
• Contribute to the effective planning and delivery of physical works
Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) plays a huge part in the work that the Environment Agency does. The site-based security team performs an essential role for the continued functioning of the Thames Tidal Defences to protect people and properties from flooding.
Essential
• Analytical problem-solving skills with experience of making risk-based decisions with an understanding of the implications of business change.
• Able to form excellent relationships within your department, the wider security community, work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Proactive, efficient with the ability to deliver at pace
• Effective communication skills, both written, verbal.

Desirable
• Experience of personnel security practices in a large business setting/the public sector.
• An understanding of personnel security and risk, as well as a willingness to develop knowledge in these areas, whilst recognising future risks, strategically planning to mitigate them.
• Knowledge and a working understanding of industry good practice principles regarding personnel security standards and frameworks, keeping abreast of changes to industry standards, regulations, and best practice
• Knowledge of incident management processes
• A background in personnel security
• An internationally recognised qualification in security management.
