We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Records Manager (RM) to lead the business in the effective and appropriate management of our records from creation through to disposal, ensuring our information is safeguarded and well governed.

The team supports and advises staff on managing their physical and digital records holdings in accordance with our information management policies, in line with legislation. You will own the relationship with our senior RM Champion, and you will be expected to use a range of influencing and stakeholder engagement skills to build the understanding and appreciation for good records management across the business using the network of 700+ RM leads and co-ordinators as the mechanism to ensure compliance.

As the Departmental Records Officer (DRO) you will work closely with The National Archives, Cross Government Groups and other external partners. Internally, you will be a core member of the Defra Information Management Group and you will work closely with our Knowledge Management and IT colleagues to help shape, develop and implement new ways of working, utilising new technologies, across the business.
The Records Management team consisting of 3 staff members, is part of the Knowledge and Information Management team in Data and Information and within the Chief Operating Officer’s Directorate. The team develops and implements organisational wide policies to promote records management best practice, report organisational compliance, provides advice and guidance, and delivers tools and training courses.
You’ll need to demonstrate excellent leadership and influencing skills, effectively partnering with a diverse range of customers to achieve key records management outcomes.

You’ll need to show evidence of how you have supported policy / process development through to implementation and negotiated successful business outcomes with customers and partners.

You’ll have a good track record of successful process development, sound business and/or legislative knowledge and a clear focus on quality and innovation.

You’ll need a good understanding of IT related processes and procedures. Experience of SharePoint as a working environment would be desirable.

You'll have excellent communications skills, and be able to build a wide range of relationships both internally and externally.
