Do you have the ability to turn data into evidence and high quality reports to help drive change on sustainability? This role will be responsible for enabling the EA to deliver the 12 commitments of eMission2030, through supporting the organisation to build high quality, timely, transparent, and accessible sustainability reporting and insight.

- Recommending and implementing the optimal approach for the EA to take on sustainability reporting, including oversighting delivery plans, as required.
- Reviewing the organisation’s existing sustainability reporting frameworks, policies, processes, and procedures, and developing these, in line with the latest standards.
- Partnering with stakeholders to ensure the EA’s sustainability reporting is science based, credible, accurate and transparent, and best practice and learning is shared.
- Providing specialist sustainability reporting to colleagues to mitigate delivery risks and ensure decisions are technically sound and aligned to legal and EA frameworks.
- Communicating progress on the EA’s reporting commitments, including commissioning, and utilising all relevant evidence, data, and insight, to aid delivery.
The Sustainable Business Team (SBT) is a welcoming one. We are part of the Chief Operating Officer Directorate. Our role is to act as a corporate enabler, supporting colleagues across the EA (Area/Directorate) Defra and our suppliers, to deliver eMission2030: the EA’s sustainability strategy. This strategy encompasses delivery of our ambition to become a net zero organisation by 2030, as well as championing resource optimisation, environmental net gain and benefiting people, wildlife and communities.
Generic requirements are set out in the BS06 job profile. Key competences for this role are:

- An in depth understanding of sustainability reporting frameworks and standards such as GHG Protocol/SBTi/GGC and others
- Significant experience in sustainability evidence and reporting, particularly with respect to data collection and insight, to guide sustainability planning and action.
- Understanding of how to integrate sustainability reporting within a business context, through engagement, networking and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work at pace, in a calm and focussed fashion, with multiple deadlines/priorities and keep up to date with evolving standards.
- Understanding of how to use evidence and reporting to monitor progress, and present data and insight in the best way to influence key stakeholders.
- Previous line management experience is essential.
- Project Management experience is desirable.
- Relevant degree or equivalent experience. Membership of professional association/institute (such as IEMA) is desirable.
