We are recruiting for 2 permanent Senior Advisors. The respective roles will lead on, and be responsible for one of the following:

(i)progressing the regulatory reform associated with the Hazardous Waste Regulations.
You will:
•engage specifically with the hazardous-waste regime but also with the wider business to ensure the detail of the reform meets business needs
•facilitate and work alongside other projects (eg CBD reform and Waste Tracking) to ensure alignment of principles and timescales, including delivery through others where relevant.
•work with Defra colleagues to ensure the associated policy approach and consultations meet our business needs.

(ii)reviewing the hazardous waste regime approach to selective components of a charges review.
You will:
•engage with the wider business to gather views, data and evidence, and ensure detail of a proposed approach(es) meet business needs.
•engage with other ‘waste movement’ regimes, to ensure alignment of principles.
•engage and work with the Waste Tracking project, to ensure alignment with the project principles and timescale.
•propose recommended approach(es).
•work with Future Funding to develop and progress charge proposals in readiness for associated consultation(s).

Both roles will also play an integral part of the Hazardous Waste team, supporting and contributing to our wider team remit.
The E&B Hazardous Waste team is a small high performing team, part of the Regime Regulation team within E&B Waste Regulation.

We lead the business on hazardous waste, supporting Government, industry and colleagues to ensure:
•hazardous waste is correctly identified and described, managed safely and that movements are fully traceable
•waste is seen as a resource and is managed in the right place, in the right way, by the right people and with minimal risk.
This is a great opportunity to lead on the development of regulatory reforms and shape the future landscape of hazardous waste.

We are looking for someone who:
•is enthusiastic, well-organised and tenacious to keep work moving at pace and deliver quickly in this fast-moving work area.
•is able to anticipate and manage risk
•has excellent project management and leadership skills
•has a good understanding of waste regulation and legislation (detailed understanding is not essential as a range of waste experts can support).
•has the energy and desire to deliver the packages of work successfully.

Your will also:
•have good written and verbal communication skills.
•have proven ability to build relationships with dispersed networks.
•have a track record of achieving results, and experience of planning, managing and delivering tasks to challenging deadlines.
•be able to work flexibly and independently, ‘owning’ your role, initiating tasks and organising a complex workload.
Office base is flexible. You will need to be comfortable with working in a dispersed team. The role will require travel to London, Birmingham, Sheffield and Bristol and occasional travel to other locations in England.

Technical Skills
Please describe your experience of working in or with the waste industry and why you are a suitable candidate for these posts.
