As an Assistant Estates Surveyor, you will work alongside our Estates Surveyors and Senior Estates Surveyors providing a professional Estates service to our business. Whether you are still working towards your professional qualification or recently qualified as a chartered surveyor, we will support you while you move through your surveying career.

You will be involved in a wide variety of surveying work; this will keep your days varied and interesting, enabling you to gain a wide breadth of knowledge and experience. Your work will focus on managing a diverse land portfolio as well as helping to deliver our national flood risk programme, overseeing various operational projects. You may also provide assistance to the acquisition and compensation programme for major capital works.

The Estates service extends to 125 people, offering professional support for Environment Agency land, property, compensation and valuation matters. We are core to the delivery of the Agency's £5.2 billion capital programme to better protect 330,000 homes. Our experienced teams specialise in negotiating access, dealing with compensation claims from land and property owners where they have suffered loss as a consequence of our work.

We also manage the Agency's landholdings, which extends to 26,000 hectares.
You’re enrolled on your APC working towards full RICS qualification or recently qualified as a chartered surveyor. This role would also suit a recent graduate who is about to enrol in their APC and who has applied workplace experience. Therefore, you’ll have a RICS accredited degree and a RICS professional membership. Ideally, with some experience delivering results in an operational environment, you’ll have a good working knowledge of a professional estates service. It would be advantageous if you’ve an understanding of compensation and land acquisition, estate management (including landlord and tenant) or valuation.

A credible and enthusiastic communicator with good networking skills, you’ve no problem building strong relationships with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders. You’re a motivated team player, able to think on your feet and prioritise your work effectively.

A full and valid driving licence is essential.

With a focus on our customers, this role will involve regular travel around your work area including some remote locations and local and national travel. A full and valid driving licence is essential. You will have access to a vehicle to carry out this work if required.
