We have an exciting opportunity in our Humber Customer and Engagement team and we are seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual who is passionate about making a difference.

This is a great opportunity for an ambitious engagement professional to work in a dynamic team, making a real contribution to the current environmental agenda.

Working closely with your colleagues, you will provide a high level of service to help meet the diverse needs of internal and external customers, stakeholders and communities. Using your knowledge of the relevant operational instructions, you will ensure that outputs are timely and of appropriate quality.

Building and maintaining productive and influential relationships with customers and partners will be at the heart of your role, as will ensuring that communications, especially those around sensitive and emotive issues, are clear and consistent.

You will also:
• Lead executive correspondence from members of the public and through Defra
• Support the team, the Area Manager and Area Leadership Team with MP engagement
• Advise teams across the business of engagement best practice and enable, mentor and coach others to deliver outstanding customer focus
• Support communications and engagement during incidents
The Humber team is a distinct team focused on managing tidal flood risk around the Humber Estuary and tidal rivers. We are currently working on the new Humber Flood Risk Management Strategy, Humber 2100+, which will redefine the approach to managing tidal risk over the next 100 years. We work with many partners and stakeholders in everything that we do.
You will:
- have experience of working to communicate and engage with stakeholders and communities, using a range of appropriate methods and techniques
- have a track record of building effective relationships with people within and outside your organisation
- have good communication, influencing and networking skills

- be able to analyse and understand complex issues and identify the communications implications

- appreciate how communication and engagement activity can contribute to changing behaviour

- be able to manage work and deliver results in a fast paced and changeable environment, both to tight deadlines and over the long term
- manage, interpret and convey complex information clearly, effectively and sensitively

Experience of delivering a public consultation would be advantageous.
The Humber team is dispersed, currently based in Beverley, York, Lincoln and Leeds and the post holder could be based in any of these locations. This role will be office-based, with the potential for some occasional travel to locations around the Humber Estuary to attend external meetings. At present all members of the team are working from home due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. We support flexible working, including job sharing, so please let us know your preferred working arrangements as part of your application. This post is a fixed term contract until October 2022.
