We are looking for a skilled mechanical fitter to assist in planned preventative maintenance on flood defence and navigation structures in the Gt Ouse catchment and to carry out repair work when necessary. You will be working within a field based team situated across Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire with mechanical and electrical team members, including apprentices, helping to complete our maintenance programme for pumping stations, river control structures, flood barriers, gates and sluices.

Our MEICA assets, which range from 1940s pumping equipment to the most up to date PLC systems, have a very important role in the protection of people, property and the environment.

Applicants will require good written, ‘IT’ and verbal communication skills whilst also being able to work well within a team environment, with other teams and contractors and, at times, alone and unsupervised.

Work will involve travelling to remote locations, working at height and working near water.

A full UK driving licence is essential, as the role will require travel to various sites within the East Anglia Area. A badged vehicle will be supplied for you to perform these duties.

Some standby and on-call work will be required. You'll also be required to take part in incident response.
MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation) Field Operations Team is a specialised group of mechanical and electrical engineers based from Ely depot. They cover the Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire area.

The team are tasked with maintaining a variety of flood defence assets from small manual flood gates to complex automated multi-gated sluices, flood defence barriers and pumping stations in a variety of urban and rural locations.
A MEICA operative qualified to a minimum of NVQ level 3 or equivalent in a Mechanical discipline.

With experience in;
• Mechanical maintenance and methodical fault finding.
• Communication and customer relations skills along with the ability to develop and maintain good relations with customers and adapt behaviour to different situations and people.
• Delivering low to medium risk multi-disciplinary projects and/or activities to time cost quality ensuring successful outcomes are achieved.
• Working independently and make decisions about priorities and appropriate action on a day to day basis, to achieve planned outcomes.
• Applying up to date, technically sound knowledge to make decisions and providing sound briefing and guidance clearly and concisely to other staff and customers.
• Basic IT skills is preferably however training will be provided where needed

A full driving licence is essential.

You will be willing to undertake specialist/or further training when necessary.

Full UK driving licence.
MEICA Team Member to a minimum of NVQ level 3 or equivalent in a mechanical discipline, with experience in mechanical maintenance and fault finding.
