We’re looking for a Hydrometry and Telemetry Officer to help maintain and manage our network of monitoring sites. You will be focussed on, daily checks, data processing, validation and quality assurance. You will also be required undertake some field work collecting data and managing sites, we will provide full training.
You will be helping the team manage the network and undertaking daily checks to make sure our network is working and where necessary arrange fixes. You will need to be a good organiser as along with managing your own work you will be expected to help manage the teams daily work activities.
The high quality hydrometric data produced is essential for the effective management of water resources and flood risk so we are looking for someone with an eye for detail.
Based at the Apollo Court office in Hatfield, the Hydrometry and Telemetry team provide core telemetry, hydrometric and hydrological activities undertaken in the Hertfordshire and North London Area of the Environment Agency.

We deliver a vital service that underpins much of the Environment Agency’s statutory responsibilities relating to flood forecasting and water resource management.
You will be a good organiser with an eye for detail. You will be passionate about the environment and enjoy using your skills to make a difference. Experience of using computer packages such as Microsoft Word and Excel and computer use in general is required.
You will be working as part of a 9 person field and office team who work closely together, but the nature of the fieldwork means that you will be required to work alone, in all weather conditions and often at remote locations. You will also need to be able to swim.
This is a 12 month fixed term contract.

Location: Apollo Court, Hatfield

The job will involve regular travelling, including visiting remote sites, and therefore a full driving licence is required.
