We are recruiting a Geomorphology Technical Specialist within our Fisheries, Biodiversity & Geomorphology (FBG) team in the North East Area. We are looking for an experienced geomorphologist to help us protect, restore and enhance the natural environment. The work dominantly will be in the fluvial environment but we welcome coastal and estuarine geomorphologists who have proven transferrable skills.

This is a fantastic opportunity working within the Environment Agency to promote and embed nature-based solutions. This is a part time post (22.2hrs/week), offered as a 12 month fixed term contract.

We want an enthusiastic professional with excellent technical and inter-personal skills to help us deliver the Governments 25 year plan. You’ll work collaboratively on a range of activities from our flood risk and environmental programmes.

The job brings a complex, varied case workload. You’ll need outstanding influencing skills, strong geomorphology expertise and an ability to provide technical leadership. You’ll provide expert geomorphological advice, guidance and training to support colleagues in delivering improvements to ecology, natural flood management solutions. The role has a strong technical and practical focus, with regular site visits with colleagues.
You'll join an experienced, supportive team of officers who integrate fisheries, biodiversity and geomorphology expertise to deliver functional, corporate and statutory duties. The role has a strong focus on delivering Water Framework Directive outcomes through operational and regulatory activities, as well as partnership working to improve the environment for people and wildlife.

You will also be a part of a dispersed community of geomorphology professionals who will support you in your role and career development.
You’ll be qualified to at least degree level in a relevant technical discipline and be able to demonstrate your geomorphology expertise at interview. You’ll have relevant applied experience that you can bring to the role.

This role is based at Tyneside House in Newcastle. This is a part time post (22.2hrs/week) and a 12 month fixed term contract covering maternity leave. We support flexible working patterns.

The post will require working across the Area, including site visits and fieldwork. There will be occasional long days and overnight stays.

A full driving licence is required for this role.
