The West Berkshire Groundwater Scheme is one of the largest groundwater pumping schemes owned and operated by the Environment Agency. It is a Water Resources asset which was designed to provide drinking water for London during a drought. It comprises 32 pumping stations connected to four major outfalls through 87 kilometres of pipeline. Its boreholes are 140 metres deep in places. An exciting opportunity has arisen to help maintain and operate this scheme. We are looking for someone with experience of managing projects and delivering results. The role will need an understanding of procurement, the tendering process and how to manage contractors.
The team is a small team made up of the Area Drought Coordinator and a Project Manager for the WBGWS. Our focus is on the Area’s preparedness for a Dry Weather incident. This sits within the Environment, Planning and Engagement Department. Due to the nature of work, you will also be working with people in teams from across Thames Area to ensure that the scheme is maintained.
You must be innovative in your thinking. You will need to demonstrate a flexible approach to work and will be able to make decisions using available information and evidence to achieve results.
You will have excellent customer skills and experience in influencing and engaging with internal and external customers and stakeholders including those at a senior level.
You will ideally have experience of managing projects.
You will have an understanding, preferably a working knowledge of procurement, tendering processes and managing contractors.
