We are the Environment Agency. We look after land quality, promote sustainable land management and help protect and enhance wildlife habitats working closely with businesses to help them comply with environmental regulations.
Operations Catchment Services (OCS) works with both internal and external customers delivering key national processes for example the water company price review and river basin management planning. Working directly with partners to achieve significant environmental improvement. It comprises technical experts and a group of externally facing account management teams. It provides timely and effective evidence for the whole business to connect the needs of both national and local customers, to provide efficient and effective solutions to our customers.

OCS are looking for an experienced Water Quality Planner to enable us and water companies to deliver significant environmental improvements in the fresh and marine water environment. You are likely to face a water and sewerage company in England and be part of the Account Manager’s Water Company Virtual Team. As well as being part of the virtual team, you will specialise in a subject area (portfolio) within OCS. It would also be desirable to us if you have a good understanding of water company performance/regulation and/or water quality modelling.
The role sits in one of the three Water Quality Teams within OCS which is part of a large department in Operations called Regulation Monitoring and Customer.
The Water Quality Team provides specialist technical WQ planning expertise across the organisation and externally to water companies. This role can be based at one of our national hub offices and as part of a dispersed team infrequent travel may be required, destinations include Birmingham, Bristol and London
You will have good knowledge/experience of water quality planning, with a large proportion of that gained through working with water companies. The ability/experience to lead very technical conversations with both internal and external partners.

Essential: A degree in a relevant environmental discipline.
Desirable: Membership of, or working towards a membership of, a relevant professional institute (e.g. CIWEM)

•Political awareness and sensitivity to deliver the right service when dealing with customers and stakeholders
•The ability to work collaboratively with other Team Leaders and Managers
•The ability to articulate solutions to problems in a simple, engaging way
•An aptitude for shaping and developing the future capability of this arena including developing a national network.
•Good judgment, problem solving and decision making skills.
•Good planning skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deliver to tight timescales.
