Are you passionate about geomorphology and the benefits that working with natural processes can bring to catchment management?

This is a fantastic opportunity working within the Environment Agency to promote and embed nature-based solutions.

We are recruiting two Geomorphology Technical Leaders within our Fisheries, Biodiversity & Geomorphology teams. We are looking for experienced geomorphologists to help us protect, restore and enhance the natural environment. The work dominantly will be in the fluvial environment but we warmly welcome coastal and estuarine geomorphologists who have proven transferrable skills.

We want enthusiastic professionals with excellent technical and inter-personal skills to help us deliver the Governments 25 year plan for the environment. You’ll work collaboratively on a range of activities from our flood risk and environmental programmes, including on nationally significant infrastructure projects.

The job brings a complex and varied case workload. You will need outstanding influencing skills, strong geomorphology expertise and an ability to provide technical leadership for your discipline. You will provide expert geomorphological advice, guidance and training to support colleagues in delivering improvements to ecology, natural flood management solutions, and more. The role has a strong technical and practical focus, with regular site visits with colleagues.
You will join a dedicated team of ecologists and fisheries experts within our Operations Directorate. The team has strong focus on delivering Water Framework Directive outcomes through our operational and regulatory activities, as well as partnership working to improve the environment for people and wildlife.

You will also be a part of a dispersed but tight-knit community of geomorphology professionals who will support you in your role and in your career development.
You will be qualified to at least degree level in a relevant technical discipline and be able to demonstrate your geomorphology expertise at interview. You will have relevant practical experience that you can bring to the role.

We are looking for:

a team player who enjoys collaborative working and supporting others and who is comfortable in building networks and relationships;

a persuasive individual who has a good track record of influencing and delivering results through others;

a confident communicator who is able to translate complex technical issues into pragmatic, clear and compelling advice and operational decision making;

a positive and proactive individual who can identify and seize opportunities and who will persevere to ensure that the job gets done;

a problem solver who is well-organised and has the confidence to work independently on their own initiative;

a good understanding of the requirements of WFD, particularly the hydromorphology element, is essential.
These are permanent positions. We support flexible working patterns.

We have one vacancy in our Warrington office and one vacancy in either our Worthing or Romsey office.

Each post will require working across the Area, including site visits and fieldwork. There will be occasional long days and overnight stays.

A full driving licence is required for this role. A lease car may be provided.

Interviews for these roles will take place on 18th June and 20th June.

Candidates who meet our criteria at interview but who can’t be offered employment on this occasion will be considered for any new geomorphology positions at this grade that arise in the next 6 months.
