We’re looking for a Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Officer to join our team. In this permanent role you will report to the Asset Performance team leader and you will work closely with asset inspection and enforcement officers and advisors.
You will provide support with asset condition assessment, planning and permitting consultations, compliance checks and data management. You will also provide a support role for other team members, assist with data requests such as the collation of historic asset information and undertake other associated tasks. You will engage with customers, communicate flood risk and contribute to the delivery of current and future programmes. You will have the opportunity to join our standby teams who respond to incidents caused by tidal flooding.
This role is vital to ensure that the tidal Thames flood defences continue to protect London from flooding now and in the future. It is a great opportunity for you to work in the asset management and civil engineering sector and to help the Environment Agency protect London and the Thames Estuary from tidal flooding.
The Thames tidal walls and embankments asset performance team manage over 3,000 flood defences that, together with the Thames Barrier, protect London from tidal flooding. Our defences are located on the banks of the Thames and its tributaries from Rainham and Erith to Teddington Lock.
The team are able to use specific legislation to enforce flood defence maintenance and construction by riverside owners. We also carry out our own flood defence repair and improvement projects.
You will be experienced in working as part of a team as well as using your own initiative on given tasks. We require someone with good communication skills both written and spoken to convey information to both colleagues and customers. You'll be able to demonstrate data management skills. You must be able to work safely and productively on your own and be able to assess the risks posed by working in remote and potentially hazardous environments. You will also need to be able to use IT including mobile technology. You will civil engineering degree, an equivalent qualification in a similar discipline, or have sufficient experience to work at an equivalent level.

The role is based at the Thames Barrier, London. A full clean UK driving licence is required for this role.
Counter terrorism security clearance (CTC) is required to work from the Thames Barrier. CRC - Basic Disclosure checks will also be carried out.
