This is an exciting opportunity for an Officer to join our Installation teams in Kent South London & East Sussex on a year’s assignment to gain more experience of industrial processes, regulating industry, and develop their influencing and negotiating skills to secure best practice often dealing with people at senior levels within industry, local communities, and other interested groups.

We are looking for a warranted officer who will be responsible for the regulation of some Installation sites under the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2016.

Your work will involve:
• Ensuring permit compliance, making complex assessments of operator ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution and optimise resources.
• Conducting site inspections and responding, investigating, and undertaking appropriate enforcement action to a range of environmental incidents.
• Securing compliance though virtual and physical audit programmes.
• Analysis and interpretation of environmental monitoring and performance data.
• Using your influencing and negotiating skills to ensure best practice.
• Dealing with people at senior levels within industry, local communities, and other interested groups.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident such as a major flood. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with an incident role.
The post will be based in one of our 2 process industry installations teams. The teams work flexibly across the Area, regulating sites across a range of industrial sectors including chemicals manufacturing, power generation, landfill, hazardous waste and non-hazardous waste treatment, incineration, metal production and metal surface treatment, food and drink, paper and textiles, Oil/gas and COMAH.
We’re seeking a person with some knowledge of industry and/or regulatory experience who is keen to develop their skills and knowledge on some of our more complex and technically challenging sites.

• You will be able to demonstrate your practical operational experience and knowledge of environmental regulation.
• You'll have some experience of delivering environmental improvements using a range of tools.
• You’ll be proactive, self-motivated and a confident communicator, used to influencing and negotiating to deliver outcomes, with strong interpersonal skills
• Works in teams to support colleagues to achieve common goals.
• Ability to manage multiple demands on time in a prioritised manner to achieve outcomes and deliver against plans.
• A proven track record of taking initiative and using a continuous improvement approach.
• Level 1 Warrant
