We are looking for a highly motivated water resources technical lead. The post holder will:
• Be jointly responsible for the local delivery of water resources service.

• Have a comprehensive understanding of water resources (knowledge of Thames area is desirable); with a view of the risks, challenges, priorities, issues and success of this work ensuring efficiency of delivery and working jointly with other area specialists.

• Contribute to Area drought planning alongside the drought co-ordinator; maintain and review Area drought management plans, develop drought training for incident response and provide input on water company drought plans.

• Act as the area water resources planning specialist; liaising with and influencing water companies to develop and review environmental focussed Water Resource Management Plans and Water Industry National Environment Plans

• Build productive and influential relationships with internal and external partners.

• Lead and provide specialist advice to local and national working groups and projects.

• Provide specialist advice to senior managers and facilitate resolution of complex or contentious issues.
The IEP team is predominantly a water planning team with specialists in water quality, water resources and river basin planning. A key feature of the team is their ability to bring others together to agree clear direction and facilitate integrated action. The team provides high quality evidence for internal and external partners. The team is composed of experts at the heart of environmental decision making, technically adept, and focussed on driving collective delivery.
You'll have a good understanding of our business and environmental activities, complementing strong IT and communication skills. Ideally you'll have a degree in an environmental subject and experience in water resources.
In addition to this you will have:
- Ability to demonstrate leadership across the area in specialist technical area
- Experience of translating Environment Agency policy and instructions into local delivery
- Evidence of working in cross-functional teams to achieve results for the benefit of both the specific function/project and the wider organisation.
- Proven influencing and networking skills
- Experience of using evidence and analysis to explore problems and propose effective solutions
- Experience of effectively prioritising and delivering work.
- Ability to coach and mentor others.
