An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology Team based in the East Midlands.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and well-motivated person to join our diverse team of professional fisheries specialists and ecologists who integrate fisheries management, biodiversity and geomorphology to deliver positive outcomes for fish populations and anglers in the East Midlands.

The successful candidate will provide support to the Fisheries Team and assist in the delivery of a broad range of fisheries management operations. This will include; advising on fish movement permits, screening internal programmers of work, providing technical advice to customers and undertaking; fisheries surveys, habitat enhancement work and incident response.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for the maintenance of the team’s fixed and non-fixed assets and look after our records management system.
Fish are an essential part of the freshwater aquatic environment, and healthy stocks indicate good environmental quality. It’s our job to maintain, improve and develop freshwater fisheries. To achieve this, the team undertakes a regulatory role and works closely local stakeholders such as angling groups, fishery owners, conservation bodies and local authorities to identify opportunities to improve our local fish stocks and develop sustainable freshwater fisheries.
We are seeking an individual with good fisheries management knowledge. You will be qualified to a National Diploma Level 3 (or higher) in freshwater fisheries management or another relevant discipline.

You will have:
• Good knowledge of; fish species and habitat requirements, fish health and water quality and key issues that affect freshwater ecology.
• Have a good understanding of the UK fisheries industry (commercial and recreational).
• Good communication skills and a proven ability to achieve results.
• Good IT skills in word, excel and database systems.
• Good planning and organisational skills with the ability to work on your own and within a team.
• Knowledge of equipment maintenance and good Health and Safety awareness.
• Project management skills (desirable)
• A full UK driving licence

The role is office based but involves travel across the East Midlands with considerable time spent in the field, often undertaking physical work, sometimes during unsocial hours.
