Chemical regimes have an important role in enabling the circular economy. They are often international in nature as well as emanating from the EC. The Environment Agency is currently planning how we respond to the UK exiting the EU and specifically what our future role in managing chemicals across a range of regimes will be. These regimes include REACH, POPs, and Plant Protection Products.
As a result we are recruiting for a Senior Advisor to lead on the shaping of our future role in managing chemical impacts on the environment.

A joint programme working across Defra, EA and HSE has been established, with a number of projects to ensure appropriate chemical regimes are in place following the UK’s exit from the EU. This role will work with this programme to help shape that future approach and ensure the links between chemicals regimes and other downstream regulatory regimes that we are responsible for (such as water quality, POPs, hazardous waste, trans-frontier shipment of waste, COMAH) are as effective as possible.
Working across the Environment Agency, as well as with Defra and HSE, this is an exciting policy role with the opportunity to make a real difference to the way we work.
This role will be working as part of the Environment Agency EU Exit Chemicals programme. Informally this will be part of a wider team linking to other E & B staff, including the Chemicals Assessment Unit and the Chemicals Compliance Team.
You will have good influencing and interpersonal skills. A relevant regulatory background with particular experience with POPs and or Hazardous Waste would be helpful. You will be well organised and able to plan effectively and deliver within a project and matrix management structure.

Closing Date: 30th August 2017 at 23:55 hours
This role will require frequent travel, the majority of which will be to offices in Wallingford, York, Birmingham and London.
