The Environment Agency are looking for professional individuals with knowledge and experience of the waste industry, and the ability to lead on the regulation of high risk/poor performing waste sites. They will need to support and guide regulatory officers and others by providing training, guidance and support on environmental regulation, and operational responses. Providing technical leadership to ensure the Regulated Industry teams achieve better permit compliance and focus regulatory effort on high risk areas of work, whilst securing better protection of the environment.‎ The successful candidates will demonstrate and be a role model for the behaviours and cultures of the Environment Agency.
The successful candidates will provide specialist guidance to operational teams and customers, keep up to date with changing legislation/best practice, mentor and coach team members, develop plans to check compliance with environmental and permit standards, undertake enforcement action where necessary and develop a safety conscious culture within the team to deliver work programmes whilst minimising risks to the health and safety of the team or any other individual.
Ideally the candidates will be a member of (or working towards membership of) relevant professional body, such as the Charted Institute of Waste Management.
The posts are located in the regulatory waste teams based at the following Yorkshire Area offices:
The teams at these locations regulate a wide range of waste industry sites. There are a diverse range of environmental challenges across the sites we regulate. To meet these challenges we need to work effectively with the other regulatory teams, with colleagues nationally and with professional partners.
We are looking for passionate and driven people who;
• Demonstrate leadership, with the ability to lead on the regulation of high risk/poor performing waste sites.
• Experience of translating technical issues for a wide audience, to inform/influence.
• Coach and mentor others to increase regulatory and enforcement knowledge and build team resilience.
• Awareness/experience of environment planning tools and techniques, their outputs, to support decision making.
• An established record of practical problem solving.
• Embrace new ways of working and the ability to integrate your specialist knowledge.
• Work individually and as part of a team.
• Member of (or working towards membership of) Charted Institute of Waste Management would be an advantage.
You would be based in either Rotherham or Beverley.
A driving licence is essential.
As part of this role you will be required to have an incident response role.
The role requires site visits and fieldwork and therefore a full driving licence is essential. Candidates may also be required to participate in an out of hours standby roster.
The role qualifies for a lease car.
