We are looking for an experienced or aspiring Team Leader to lead and motivate the Field Team based in Guildford. This is an exciting opportunity to take on the leadership of one of the Thames Field Team’s. You will be responsible for delivering our maintenance programme, maintenance projects and incident response service in a safe, efficient, effective manner. The role will always be extremely challenging and demanding to make sure our workforce delivers everything it can deliver to manage Flood Risk as effectively as possible. This challenge is made even greater by the high visibility of the teams both internally and externally. The nature of this challenge means that when you get it right this could well be one of the most satisfying and for filing roles you have ever undertaken.

Fundamental to the role is you providing leadership and direction to the team to ensure that the team remains motivated, dynamic, safe and effective whilst delivering an ever increasing and changing programme of objectives.
The teams are organised to cover clearly defined geographical areas and are made up of a range of skills and experience. There are currently 5 Field Team’s in Lower Thames. This position is to cover the River Wey catchment which has 10 operatives reporting to the team leader post.
We are seeking an experienced Team Leader or an individual who aspires to become a Team Leader. You will demonstrate an understanding of performance management and be positive and self motivated. You will be happy to lead, motivate, challenge and develop others. You will have experience of delivering both in a planned proactive way and a reactive (incident) manner.

You will lead, direct, motivate and inspire a team using your initiative to manage and prioritise complex workloads, tight deadlines and ever changing prioritises.
Be able to demonstrate excellent communication and influencing skills.
Be customer focused and aware of the wider environmental outcomes and the need to manage are reputation as well as being operationally effective. You will also need to be a strategic thinker with the ability to provide direction to the team to ensure we adapt to new challenges.
Closing Date: 2nd May 2017 at 23:59 hours

Although the role is office based the expectation is that the Team Leader will spend a reasonable proportion of their time in the field directly overseeing their team and hence requires a full UK driving license.

As a Field Team Leader you will be expected to undertake an Incident Management role which will primarily be managing your team during an incident. This is likely to lead to work outside of the core hours.

You will be part of the Lower Thames Operations Management Team and be expected to contribute across the whole of the area in delivering flood risk management.
