The successful candidate will determine applications for environmental permits by carrying out appropriate technical assessments in accordance with Environment Agency processes and regulatory obligations.

You'll be expected to determine permits across a range of environmental permitting sectors, with an initial focus on waste and water quality permitting, following relevant sector guidance, utilise specialist advice from other teams and make risk based decisions. Full training will be provided for the role.

It's a fast paced and varied job, working to enable businesses to operate whilst protecting the environment. If successful you'll be expected to undertake extensive training and development to build up your permitting knowledge to provide you with the relevant skills and abilities.
We are looking for a permitting officer to join our Permitting Team within the National Permitting Service. The role will be based at our Richard Fairclough House office in Warrington, Cheshire. The team's primary function is to determine permit applications across a number of sectors. Other areas of work include providing permitting support and advice to Area regulatory teams and the wider business. Our teams strive to enable businesses to operate whilst protecting the environment.
The successful candidate will:
• Manage a varied portfolio of work and deliver this work within tight deadlines.
• Have a broad knowledge of environmental issues.
• Have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), customer service skills, work effectively within a team and the ability to persuade and influence others.
• Be comfortable using common applications within Microsoft Office and have an aptitude to develop skills required of bespoke software and the ability to demonstrate attention to detail.
• Have a desire to protect the environment.
• Ideally be educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject.

Assesses applications, issues and maintains permits by completing reviews and ensuring permits comply with changing legislation.
