You'll be responsible for regulating the waste industry, ensuring our regulated sites remain in full compliance and taking tough action against those that fail to comply. This is a challenging role and you may need to deal with situations that are confrontational.

Good communication, influencing and persuading skills are therefore essential.
You will be part of a waste management team based at one of 6 locations within the Area. You will work in a large geographical area which brings a diverse range of environmental challenges.


The team regulates permitted waste sites, hazardous waste producers and waste carriers in the West Midlands region, which ensures compliance and protection of the environment. They also participate in out of hours standby for waste and water incidents.
We offer full training supported by a team of highly skilled and experienced waste regulators.
A significant proportion of our work involves advice and guidance so it’s important that you have good influencing skills and can think laterally to resolve problems.
You will have the minimum of an A Level in a relevant discipline, or equivalent work experience. A degree in a scientific subject will be an advantage.

You must be a confident and effective communicator used to influencing and negotiating to deliver outcomes. You will be proactive, self-motivated and flexible to effectively work independently and as a dispersed team.



The following are desirable;

Experience of waste management issues including hazardous waste, environmental permitting regulations, waste carrier registrations, duty of care, international waste shipments, and exemptions.

Experience of investigating waste offences and taking enforcement action.

A valid Level 1 Powers of Entry or Level 2 Enforcement warrant.

The post can be based from Shrewsbury, Stafford, Kidderminster, Lichfield (Fradley), Solihull or Tewkesbury.
A full UK Driving licence is essential as you will be involved with field work.
