Have you got great influencing skills? Can you persuade people to of the benefits of changing their decisions in your favour? Ultimately can you make a strong case for investment? We're looking for an enthusiastic manager to lead our national Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Directorate's Investment team.

You’ll lead a team of experts responsible for setting our national approach to investment and funding. They identify the need for investment and then help make a strong case that secures long-term funding. And they don’t just do this for the Environment Agency, they help all Risk Management Authorities to choose the right investments in the right places.

As well as providing strategic leadership on investment, you'll ensure that local and project teams in the Agency and other Risk Management Authorities have the skills, tools, knowledge and engagement opportunities to build relationships that create funding partnerships and ultimately lead to successful investments in reducing flood and coastal erosion risk.

This post reports to the Deputy Director for Risk Assessment and Investment.
The post-holder will manage a team of advisers responsible for:

Identifying opportunities for investment partnerships at a national level and ensuring we approach them in a way that joins strategic and local conversations.

Supporting local teams to realising investment opportunities by building knowledge and skills.

Ensuring investment choices meet the requirements of government policy and manage corporate risk effectively.

Developing and managing investment tools and frameworks for all risk management authorities to use.
You'll be able to demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following areas: the Environment Agency’s approach to investment in reducing Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk; the economics and appraisal of infrastructure investment; engagement; and funding partnerships.

• You’ll have strong networking and relationship building skills, together with a good track record of delivering through others and at pace, particularly through external partnership working.
• You’ll be an excellent communicator with the ability to see the customers’ perspective and tell your story in a way that persuades them of the benefits to them – and you’ll understand the skills you have that allow you to do this so you can pass them on.
• Practical knowledge and experience of developing projects with partners and making the case for investment would be an advantage.
